Understanding Diabetes: Signs, Symptoms and Management

May 15, 2025

Diabetes is a chronic health condition that affects how your body turns food into energy. There are three main types of diabetes: type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes. Each type of diabetes has unique causes and risk factors.

Common Symptoms

  • Frequent urination
  • Feeling very thirsty
  • Feeling very hungry
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Blurry vision

Early detection and treatment can prevent serious complications. Our diabetes specialists at JPK Healthcare provide comprehensive management plans tailored to your needs.

Understanding Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease where the body's immune system attacks and destroys insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. People with type 1 diabetes need to take insulin every day to survive. This type usually develops in children, teenagers, and young adults, but can appear at any age.

Understanding Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. With this condition, your body doesn't use insulin properly (insulin resistance). While some people can control their blood sugar levels with healthy eating and exercise, others may need medication or insulin to manage it. Type 2 diabetes is more common in middle-aged and older adults but can develop at any age.

Gestational Diabetes

This type of diabetes occurs during pregnancy. Most of the time, it goes away after birth, but it does increase the mother's risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life. It can also increase the child's risk of health problems, including obesity and diabetes.
